Yearlings

Two Year Olds
When: Where:
Thursday 15 August Ring 1
54. GELDING or COLT, with potential to be a top level-sport horse and carry over 83kgs (13st).
55. GELDING or COLT, with potential to be a top level-sport horse and carry up to 83kgs (13st).
56. FILLY, with potential to be a top-level sport horse.
Three Year Olds
When: Where:
Thursday 15 August Ring 1
57. GELDING, with potential to be a top level-sport horse and carry over 83kg (13st).
58. GELDING, with potential to be a top level-sport horse and carry up to 83kg (13st).
59. FILLY, with potential to be a top level-sport horse.

Aim

To promote the breeding of correct, athletic horses with good movement and excellent conformation capable of excelling in the various disciplines.

They should have good flat bone, excellent conformation, substance, quality and movement.

RDS Members: €250 each entry; Non-Members: €290 each entry

Rules

Horses should be appropriately tacked with an in-hand bridle with a bit and a leather lead shank of sufficient length.

Double bridles are not permitted.

Awards & Prizes

Classes 52 - 59:

1st €1,600, 2nd €1,350, 3rd €900, 4th €400, 5th €250

A Special Breeders’ Prize of €500 will be presented to the breeder of the winning horse in each class.

The RDS will present a Champion Prize of €2,000 & a Reserve Champion Prize of €1,000 for the Overall Champion Young Horse.

The RDS will present a Champion Prize of €1,000 & a Reserve Champion Prize of €500 for the Champion Traditionally Bred Young Horse.

McCusker Group of Lurgan, Co. Armagh, have kindly sponsored the Best Turned Out Prizes in each of the Young Horse classes.  The winner of the Best Turned Out will receive €100.  The Best Turned Out will be judged by the judges in the ring.

The winners of Three Year Old classes 57, 58 and 59 should they be produced as four year olds to win one of the Show Hunter classes (classes 2, 3, 6 or 9) will be eligible to win, or share in, a special bonus prize of €10,000.  Horses will be eligible to receive the special bonus prize regardless of whether ownership has changed.  Should one or more horses meet the criteria, the special bonus prize will be divided equally.

Cups & Trophies

Cup No. 7 – Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the Champion Traditionally Bred Young Horse.  The first and second prize-winners in Classes 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, and 59 will compete for this Cup.  

Cup No. 39 – Perpetual Challenge Cup presented for the Champion Yearling (Classes 52 and 53).

Cup No. 40 – Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Champion Two Year Old (Classes 54 – 56).

Cup No. 46 – The “Laidlaw” Perpetual Challenge Cup for the overall Champion Young Horse.  Champions and Reserves from Cups 39, 40, 73 and 145 will compete for this Cup.

Cup No. 73 – The “Anthony Maude” Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Champion Three Year Old.  First and second prize winners in Classes 57 – 61 will compete for this Cup.

Cup No. 145 – The “Owen Ryan” Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Champion Yearling, two or three year old filly.  The first and second prize-winning fillies in Classes 53, 56, 59 and 61 will compete for this Cup.

Parade

The Champion and Reserve Champion Yearling, Two Year Old, Three Year Old, the Champion and Reserve Champion of the Laidlaw Cup, and the Champion and Reserve Champion  Traditionally Bred Young Horse are required to participate in the Parade of Champions on Friday 16 August.  Further details are available here.
